Loch Moy Farm offers a variety of fun and accessible opportunities throughout the year for grassroots riders to learn and compete.
Maryland International Equestrian Foundation FEI Scholarship
In 2024, MIEF will award four scholarships that are equivalent to $1,000 to riders competing at the 1*, 2*, 3* and 4* levels at the July Maryland International. (Use one application per horse/level you are applying for). The scholarships assist by covering entry fees, stabling, as well as rider and groom/grounds person accommodations.
Menfelt Adult Amateur Eventing Scholarship
Dale Clabaugh, State Farm Agent (Walkersville, MD) is pleased to sponsor The Menfelt Adult Amateur Eventing Scholarship.
Menfelt was located at Woodvale Farm which offered horse trials in the 1990's to 2003. This scholarship honors the history of horse trials and volunteerism at Menfelt and by assisting an adult amateur rider further develop and achieve their eventing skills and goals.
For FEI level eventing to stay in Maryland, we all need to support it.

About Loch Moy Farm
Carolyn Mackintosh began transforming Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, Maryland from cow country to a premier eventing facility in 2006. This year she will run over 50 competitions—more than any other eventing venue in Maryland. The facility is open for schooling year round, including a Xderby course set up on the 9 acres of all weather rings.
Loch Moy Farm hosts events for all ages, amateurs and professionals alike, from starter activities for the very newest human and equine competitors all the way to the highest levels of international competition. US Eventing has called Loch Moy Farm "a year-round playground for eventers." Without it, Maryland eventing would be greatly diminished.

Meet the MIEF Scholarship Recipients
Morgan Connelly
2023 Maryland International CCI2* Scholarship Recipient
Maryland International Equestrian Foundation is pleased to present the Maryland International CCI2* scholarship to Morgan Connelly of Jarrettsville, Maryland. She competes at the Preliminary and Intermediate levels with Benevolence, a Pennsylvania-bred off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding. So far this year, the pair has competed at the Sporting Days Farm March Horse Trial in Aiken, the May recognized Waredaca Horse Trial in Laytonsville, Fair Hill International recognized horse trial in May, and the Maryland Combined Training Association’s recognized event at Shawan Downs in June. Connelly grew up riding around “big grassy fields” in Maryland, and now passes on her love for horses to the adult amateurs and children that she teaches. Congratulations,
Caitlin O’Roark
2023 Maryland International CCI3* Scholarship Recipient
Maryland International Equestrian Foundation is pleased to present the Maryland International CCI3* scholarship to Caitlin O'Roark of Centreville, Virginia. O’Roark rides for U.S. Olympic eventer Lauren Nicholson and competes at the Intermediate level with What the Devil, a Dutch Warmblood/Thoroughbred cross. What the Devil has family ties to Maryland - his grand-sire was the multiple-graded-stakes winning, Maryland-bred stallion Devil’s Bag. O’Roark and What the Devil won the Intermediate/Preliminary division at this year’s Rocking Horse Spring Horse Trial in Altoona, Florida.
Christy Niehues
2023 Maryland International CCI1* Scholarship Recipient
Maryland International Equestrian Foundation is pleased to present the Maryland International CCI1* scholarship to Christy Niehues of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She competes at the Modified level with Flight School, an Oklahoma-bred off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding. The pair finished 2nd in the Open Preliminary division at Heritage Park Horse Trials in Olathe, Kansas, last October, and have competed in several horse trials this season as well. Niehues works a full-time job, and on top of that, still teaches riding lessons in the evenings. It is no easy thing to event at the highest level from northeastern Arkansas, and Niehues is looking forward to taking advantage of the many educational opportunities for eventers in Maryland when she is here in July. Valerie Pride
2022 MDIEF Grant Recipient
“I have ridden literally all of my life and set the highest standard for myself and my program to be an ambassador of the US and Eventing simultaneously. I have been given a great opportunity to do that on multiple levels this summer. Alongside competing as a top level Eventing rider, I also hold top licenses as an Eventing judge. Plans have unfolded for a once in a lifetime summer, made possible by the Maryland International Equestrian Foundation grant.
I realize that I am a very lucky girl. Getting to work and train with the best in the world to prepare for one of the best events in the world. The knowledge and expertise that I will have gained from this experience applies to so many people on so many levels. I can’t wait to share it!”
